Public Engagement & CollabsSteven has collaborated with a diverse range of organisations & businesses to bring bonsai into new spaces and communities.
Since 2024, he has worked alongside UNICEF delivering bonsai workshops within communities and retirement villages while helping raise awareness of the organisation’s mission to support children in need around the world.
His partnerships also extend into the retail sector. Steven has worked with Mitre 10 MEGA to run bonsai workshops across New Zealand in a travelling roadshow, while also contributing Japanese and Zen garden display concepts for stores. He began expanding bonsai workshops nationally through leading garden centres such as California Home & Garden and Palmers Garden Centres.
In the lifestyle and creative sector, Steven partnered with Wellington craft beer brewery Garage Project to host the popular “Sip & Bonsai” events around the country, introducing new audiences to bonsai in a relaxed and social setting. He also collaborated with fashion brand I Love Ugly on a creative campaign featuring bonsai artistry alongside the launch of their men’s jewellery collection, blending design, philosophy, and visual storytelling.
Steven’s work has also extended into corporate environments, including team-building events with LT McGuinness where a native Pōhutukawa bonsai he created was purchased and displayed as a symbolic mascot at a major government building construction site in Wellington.
Through workshops, demonstrations, and creative collaborations, Steven continues to push the boundaries of how bonsai is experienced, bringing this ancient art form and practice into contemporary culture while inspiring people to slow down, observe nature, and appreciate the beauty of trees in miniature.
